You may remember John Cherkas from this (posted at COACD in December)

I thought there was no way he was going to be cast but here he is strolling down the runway at Costume National s/s 2010 once…

twice…

three times!

I am out $100 and very surprised.

There is a reason why zombies make up the absolute lowest point in the uncanny valley. GODDAMN!

But at least it’s not as bad as last season! At any rate, Kris Van Assche still hasn’t got a vision for Dior Homme which means that we were treated once again to a middling, uninspired collection spiked with the obligatory skinny black suits. He also did Hammer pants, all though this time they had less volume.

There were some nice cloth coats but there are plenty of great coats this season; look at Miharayasuhiro, YSL, Rick Owens, and even KVA’s own line– hee hee (see pic at lower right).

Les Hommes had a good collection with all kinds of amazing details. Check out this trompe l’oeil coat and a suit with diagonal pleating? pin tucking?

I love seeing embellishments like this for menswear.

As usual, Roberto Cavalli sends out a mindbendingly ugly collection:

I don’t even know how to review this other than to say it was a bunch of over embellished garbage that made no sense.
ps you will notice that Tomek made 3 appearances in this fiasco– what a trooper!

Instead of being scared into humbleness by the world economy, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi put out a defiantly luxurious collection for Ferre. In less skillful hands it would have been an exercise in ostentation but here the rich materials looked tactile rather than just expensive. Among the most impressive looks were the funnel necked coats. In wool and leather the funnel necks were firm and architectural; in Persian lamb they collapsed romantically. The coats were paired with very slim fitting pants featuring sharp creases.

There were suits and jackets done in velvet or glossy fabrics as well as the traditional wool. One of my favorite looks was a black velvet suit worn with a satin vest and sheer turtle neck which seemed as cozy as it was extravagant. And speaking of cozy, the huge knits (sweaters and massive scarves) were especially appealing.

The rest of the collection was rounded out with slick suits, trench coats, and a few flashy pieces like shirts glazed with sequins and sparkly blazers.

menswear f/w 09.10! The pic above is from Bogetta Veneta which was gorgeous as usual. More to come…
p.s. Seriously, I managed to sleep from around 11pm on Friday to 10am today (Sunday) without interruption. I woke up feeling like one of those Peruvian air-mummies; I didn’t just feel thirsty, I felt dried out. After drinking 4 huge glasses of water I felt much better until I looked at my computer and saw it was Sunday. wtf happened to Saturday?! I would be upset right now if it wasn’t menswear week.

I got my Christmas tree today and I’m almost finished with decorating it. I bought about 50 blown glass pinecones which have to be wired to the branches (rather than hung) to get the right effect but they look spectacular. Tiny little gold glass pine cones all over the tree, looking so perfect and correct. Also looking perfect and correct: Christian Brylle in November’s GQ
